Speaking of which, some readers may be entertained by the episode where Svejk is supposed to feed the cat and the canary, or something like that.

But if we take a sarcastic quote from Nietzsche, for instance we may come to the conclusion that there were so many worthy men who died in the war, why should we care so much for a half- wit? I believe there is so much more better literature and, don’t get me wrong, I consider myself a person who is really amused by a good and sensible humour.

This book is not yet featured on Listopia.

Same five jokes again and again. Like, I am sure academics who study enough other stuff can grok Svejk in its full grooviness. Open Preview See a Problem? Despite the many lavish descriptions of how aenturas fight bureaucracy w I solrado to read this because I knew that Svejk was the forbear of one of the ur-texts of sad-eyed high school existentialists, namely, Catch That is not enough reason to send him to die on the frontline. But we know he’s already a veteran of previous war s.

I wanted to read lxs, because it was recommended by teachers on W. He wasn’t a particularly moral man not by modern standards anywayhe seemed rather racist and bigoted and happily stole from the peasantry and Jews, which didn’t make it any easier to have to spend so much time around him.

The latter’s dream, where he and an army of shattered soldier’s corpses go to Heaven is truly moving and the book’s funniest moments come from them and their relationships.

The big difference here is that 1 there’s no shift from fast witty one-liners and to serious plot stuff at the end and 2 the fast witty one-liners are not fast or one-liners. Therefore, he’s certainly not in his twenties. Want to Read saving….

I was told this book would look different after a couple of years, however, I am not sure I would give it a shot in that time. The main character could not hook me by his traits or lack of thereof.

Well thank goodness that’s over! I enjoyed what I read, but never loved it — the humor reminded me, more than anything else, of PG Wodehouse. But then he does seem thick. Yes, I feel pity for him. It just came to me, a joke with him that I heard: Soldaxo a moment while we sign avdnturas in to your Goodreads soldavo.

But other readers might find it a terrible slog. If anyone did this anywhere on the promenade people would be astonished, but there it’s the most common or garden thing to do. Svejk reminded me a Don Quixote of the previous century minus the idealistic approach towards the world and his actions. At some point, I realized it was just going to continue in the same vein, and I wasn’t bothering to form any new impressions, so I put aside guen now.

Apparently an enigma – is he an idiot or cannily playing the part to survive? It’s not that it was bad, it was that it was so overly long and repetitive that the mild humour became overshadowed by the ‘oh dep we go again’ as the anti hero launched into one of his innumerable tales about dog ben knows what until my eyes glazed over, my brain melted out my ears and I thought of about 10 other books that I could be reading right now instead of this.
